National Center for Control of Rheumatic Fever & Heart Disease
The National Center was established on 1st November, 1988 as a pilot project for prevention and control of Rheumatic Fever and Rheumatic Heart Diseases in Bangladesh.
The Govt. of People’s Republic of Bangladesh launched the project with financial and technical support from Govt. of Japan through Japan international co-operation Agency (JICA).
The project was absorbed into revenue budget under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of Bangladesh in 1993-94 and renamed as “National Center For Control of Rheumatic fever and Heart Disease(NCCRF&HD)”.
Population survey done during late 80’s showed a prevalence of RF/RHD in mixed population of 7.5 to 7.8 per thousand in Bangladesh.
A community-based study was done in 2005 on rural Bangladeshi children aged 5-15 years to determine the prevalence of Rheumatic Fever (RF) and Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD). The prevalence was found to be 1.2 (95% confidence interval 0.3-2.1) per 1000.
Our Center has the capacity of carrying out survey surveillance, training, seminar and research activity on different health issues.
The centre has successfully controlled the prevalence / incidence of R/F & RHD, Now we gradually extend our objective to words the prevention and Control of Non communicable diseases NCD’s in Bangladesh.
